Come in, sit down, relax and enjoy some of the best of Mughal Court cooking without the agony of choosing from a menu. Some tender morsels of meat, fish or vegetables fresh from the tandoor, some delicacies from the oven, some hot bread and maybe just a little bit of handi-cooked dal or chicken are all brought to your table. And with two tandoors in the display kitchen upstairs and two in the main kitchen downstairs, breads and kebabs will always be fresh and hot, just the way the Mughal emperors wanted them.

Founded in 1983, the delicious cooking and unparalleled service of The Red Fort continues attracting politicians, state dignitaries, entrepreneurs and celebrities alike.

The restaurant has won numerous awards since its opening, including Best Indian Restaurant by Time Out London Magazine.

Head Chef, Azadur Rahman and his team of seven chefs selected from across India have mastered the art of Mughal Court cooking over the years, creating refined dishes which pioneer fresh British produce and sub-continental flavours.
There is a traditional grill situated in the open plan kitchen at The Red Fort and diners are encouraged to order some of the specialities which include ‘Scottish lobster with saffron, garlic, cinnamon and nutmeg’. Mains include Jumbo Prawns marinated with saffron, chilli and garlic’ and ‘Stone Bass fillet with mustard seed, coconut milk and curry leaf sauce.’

Everyday, The Red Fort uses its huge Tandoor ovens to produce over twenty different breads, freshly baked to order, including everything from favourite ‘Peshawari naan’ to more typical ‘Makkai roti’ (maize flour bread), as well as six different homemade chutneys ranging from ‘Mango with curry leaves’ to ‘Banana with orange and cinnamon’.

Head chef Azadur Rahman’s unique Mughal Court cooking showcases the very finest of Indian food in elegant surroundings.

Born in the Bangladeshi district of Sylhet, Chef Azadur Rahman has been leading his team of seven chefs at The Red Fort for more than 20 years and continues to create authentic and imaginative dishes to inspire his high-profile diners.

The Red Fort prides itself on the high quality of its fresh ingredients. Its suppliers of meat, vegetables and fish are among the world’s most reputable with clients including the Royals of Dubai and other ruling families in the Middle East.

Fresh British ingredients are used throughout the menu, such as Scottish lobster, Welsh lamb, Gressingham Duck breast and seasonal, locally sourced vegetables.

The Red Fort interiors combine sleek, contemporary design with the welcoming atmosphere of ancient India in an intoxicating mix of old and new. The restaurant’s strong tradition of service, authentic food and fine wines are enjoyed within this iconic and modern dining room.

Natural finishes, Welsh slate, Jaipuri red sandstone imported from Rajasthan and intricate mosaic form the key floor patterns, while the walls are a mixture of inlaid sandstone and Mughal arch motifs. Images of The Red Fort in Delhi decorate the walls and rare shattered glass hangings with intricate detail adorn the restaurant.

At the rear, a skylight provides natural light. A copper mosaic-tiled water feature, based on classical Mughal garden design cascades elegantly down the wall, and the opulence of the Mughal Court is evoked by the deep brown silk-lined walls

and leather banquettes. Tandoor ovens are visible behind glass to the diners and add theatre to the preparation of speciality dishes, such as the freshly baked naan breads that are made to order as guests look on.Indian art, both traditional and contemporary complements the antiques and objets d'art sourced from the Mughal centres of Delhi, Hydrabad and Lahore, creating the perfect Indo-British ambience.

Alan Rickman, Sting, Tina Turner, Emma Thompson, Shahrukh Khan, Whitney Houston, Sheikh Al Nahayan are some of the many who held their private parties at The Red Fort. Gandhi, Heat and Dust, Room with View, Howards End, Passage to India, Jewel in the Crown, Bend it like Beckham, Bride and Prejudice and many other films had launching party here. Tony and Cherie Blair held their daughter Kathryn Blair’s 19th birthday party at The Red Fort while he was the Prime Minister of Britain. The Indian Cricket Team, led by Saurav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulker held one of their winning parties in The Red Fort.

Our chefs have displayed their skills to many exclusive outside parties like Cannes Film Festival, Durbar Court Foreign and Commonwealth Office, 10 and 11 Downing Street, Speaker’s Apartments in the Palace of Westminster, Cabinet Office, British Film Institute, Victoria Albert Museum and many more.

There is no hire fee for holding events as charges are based on a minimum spend.

This place has been here for at least 20 years. It's had a revamp and is even better. The service is very attentive, maybe a bit distant. The food is very well put together with carefully considered spicing. Each dish is distinctive in construction and flavour. The decor is lovely. Sumptuous but not overdone. Would definitely visit at least once...
